uth Evershed finds herself in the middle of an investigation when a man for whom she provided change at a tube station commits suicide by jumping in front of the train. The Special Branch report on the incident is due out that same day and it turns out to be a complete whitewash. Ruth is convinced that her meeting Maudsley was intentional and that he has left her a series of clues to follow. Harry Pearce decides to take on Oliver Mace, but he's quite prepared to play hardball and is quite prepared to accuse Ruth of having pushed Maudsley into the train.
